Why replace your dishwasher rack

The plastic coating on dishwasher racks are especially prone to wear and tear, exposing the metal frame to rust. Dishwasher racks can become damaged if they are not treated with care.

Maintaining your dishwasher

For sparkling clean dishes and glassware, you need to give some extra care and attention to your dishwasher.

• Check your dishwasher spray arms can spin easily, without obstruction. Sometimes they become clogged with food debris. Simply remove them and give them a good clean with hot, soapy water and a light scrub with an old toothbrush. You may need a wire or pipe cleaner to release any debris from the spray arm holes.
• Give your filter a good clean. Remove from your dishwasher (usually located below the racks and generally attached with a twist cap). Then, rinse thoroughly under hot water. Use a bristled brush to remove trapped debris.
• Give your dishwasher a deep clean. Run a hot cycle with 2 cups of white vinegar added to your dishwasher.
• Descale your dishwasher. It’s a great way to deodorise and clean your appliance! We recommend Aktivo Dishwashing + Washing Machine Descaler to effectively remove limescale and grime.
• Give your dishwasher door seal a good inspection and look out for wear and tear. If you see signs of damage or notice water leaking from your dishwasher, you can easily replace your dishwasher door seal.
• Inspect your drain hoses - Over the course of its lifecycle, dishwasher connections and hoses may become loose. Check the drain hose to make sure its securely connected and it is free of cracks or deterioration. Ensure your hose clamps are secure (tighten if required).

Stacking your dishwasher rack – How much is too much?

Get the best results from your dishwasher by loading it correctly. Our top tips:

• Place lighter items such as glasses, cups and small bowls on the top rack. Dishwasher-safe plastics should go on the top rack as excessive heat can warp plastics.
• Place all heavy items such as pots, pans, large bowls and dinner plates on the bottom rack.
• Scrape leftover food into the rubbish bin first, but do not pre-rinse your plates. Place dishes with their dirty sides facing the centre of the dishwasher.
• Don’t overfill or stack dishes too close together.
