How to test your washing machine pump

Step 1: You will need a few towels and a bucket for this task. You will find a service hatch at the bottom of your machine on the front panel. Look for an emergency drain hose. Place your towels underneath and pinch the hose while you remove the plug from the end. Water will start to rush out so have your bucket ready. You may need a few buckets on hand until all the water is cleared.
Step 2: Now that the machine is fully drained, you can inspect your pump. Put on some rubber gloves and inspect the pump for any obstructions. Remove any obstructions. If there is a filter, this is a good time to remove and clean it under running water. Using a damp cloth give the interior a clean. Wipe the cap clean and reattach filter, hose and lid.

How to replace the washing machine pump

Safety first! Unplug your washing machine from the power source before attempting any repairs or maintenance.

Step 1: Drain the water
You will find a service hatch at the bottom of your machine on the front panel. Look for an emergency drain hose. Place your towels underneath and pinch the hose while you remove the plug from the end. Water will start to rush out so have your bucket ready.

Step 2: Remove the panels
Using a screwdriver, remove the top and back panels. Carefully put the appliance on its side. Do seek some help when moving your washer.

Step 3: Remove the old pump
You will need to disconnect the wires and remove the hose and clamp. With the help of pliers, lower the clamp so that the drain hose moves away from the pump.

Step 4: Fit the pump
Lastly you will need to fit the replacement pump following the steps above.
