How to replace your fridge door handle

Your refrigerator handles experience a lot of use in their lifetime. Occasionally, they can become loose or can be subject to damage if forcefully opened. Replacing your door fridge door handle is a simple task with easy installation.

For fridge door handles that are secured with screws, just loosen the screws to remove the old handle and reinstall the new one. Some screws may be concealed by a small removable panel.

If your fridge door handle is secured with a plastic bracket, you will need to press on the tab and hold it down against the door while lifting the door handle up to release the bracket. The new handle can then be placed into the brackets and locked into place.

Do check your operating manual or manufacturers website if you need more detailed instructions.

What handle does my fridge need?

• To find the right handle for your fridge or freezer, you will first need your model number.
• If unsure where to find your model number, check out our guide. Most manufacturers will not make you have to pull your fridge out to obtain model information on the back of it. Although it may be on the back, there is most likely a second copy (simpler version) on the inside of the fridge. If it is not located on the side of the door once you open it, look for it on the front edge of the fridge/freezer cabinet.

Check your fridge door seal
The seal around your refrigerator or freezer door seals in cold air. This ensures your food stays fresh and maintains safe temperatures. Be sure to wipe down the seal regularly with warm soapy water and a sponge (you can also use an old toothbrush to give it a light scrub). Then wipe down with a damp cloth.

Clean the refrigerator coils
Over time, dust and dirt accumulate on your refrigerator coil. To reduce your energy bill and extend the lifespan of your fridge, give the coils a regular clean.

Before you start, switch off the power supply. Your fridge coils may be located at the rear of your refrigerator (on the outside), underneath the fridge or inside the fridge behind a panel. Once located, use a brush (or coil brush) to remove lint build up, dirt and dust. Make this job even easier with a small nozzle vacuum to effectively suck up any residue before plugging your refrigerator back in.
