Air Conditioner Clean your air conditioner filters Your air conditioner gets a good workout, especially over the hot summer months. Blocked or dirty filters restrict air flow. This can reduce energy efficiency and affect your air conditioner’s life span. We recommend cleaning your air conditioner filter at the start of each season and monthly during peak times. First, remove your filter from the housing and get rid of excess dust and grime with a vacuum. Follow up with a wash in warm soapy water. Check your fridge door seal If your food and drinks aren’t nice and cool, it could be that your fridge door seal is defective. Keep your food fresh and at a safe temperature by regularly checking for any signs of wear and tear or damage on your door seal. Replace defective seals and be sure to give the seal a good clean with warm soapy water and a sponge on a regular basis. Dishwasher Clean your spray arms Ensure your dishwasher spray arms can spin easily, without obstruction. Sometimes they become clogged with food debris. Simply remove them and give them a good clean with hot, soapy water and a light scrub with an old toothbrush. You may need a wire or toothpick to dislodge any debris from the spray arm holes. Inspect your drain hoses Over the course of its lifecycle, dishwasher connections and hoses may become loose. Check the drain hose to make sure its securely connected and it is free of cracks or deterioration. Ensure your hose clamps are secure (tighten if required). Handy tip! Washing Machine Inspect your washing machine hose Most washing machine floods are caused by hose leaks. Check the hoses that connect to the back panel on your washing machine for any cracks, leaks, or weak spots on the hoses. If you find any damage, the hose can be replaced with one from Statewide. Clean removable lint traps Older washing machines tend to have a washer lint trap. These are generally located inside the centre agitator (top-loader), along the top rim of the washer drum or at the end of the drainage hose. These can get clogged from time to time and lead to mold and mildew buildup. Manually remove the lint trap and wash with warm water and detergent. Use a small brush to clean the interior before replacing your lint trap filter.  Newer washing machines generally do not have a removable lint filter. Instead they rely on a self cleaning pump filer to remove excess lint. Its a good idea to run an empty wash once a month to flush excess debris and lint from the pump filter. If you have a front loading washer, you will notice will notice a small door near the bottom of your washer. This can be opened to remove buttons, coins or any small remnants that may be clogging the water pump filter. Check this regularly to ensure there are no blockages. If your lint filter is cracked or damaged, you can easily replace yours here. Dryer Clean your lint filter Ensure your dryer is operating safely and effectively by cleaning your clothes dryer filter. Trapped lint in the dryer means your motor has to work even harder, causing additional wear and tear. A clogged vent will also block airflow to the machine and this could cause it to overheat. To clean your lint filter, simply pull out the lint trap screen. Start by removing any large clumps of lint, thread or debris, before rinsing under warm, soapy water.
