How to easily remove and replace your refrigerator door

To remove the fridge door

Before you start, make sure you unplug your refrigerator.

Step 1:

To replace your refrigerator door, you will need to empty the contents of your refrigerator door shelves and remove any obstacles around the refrigerator so that you have space to tackle this task.

Most refrigerator models have a hinge cover at the top of the door. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the hinge cover.

Step 3:

Behind the hinge cover, you’ll find wiring connecting the door to the refrigerator. Carefully unplug these wires by pulling them apart or using a screwdriver to release the connectors.

Step 4:

With the wiring disconnected, locate the screws securing the hinge to the refrigerator. Using a screwdriver, remove these screws and set them aside in a safe place.

Step 5:

Once the screws are removed, carefully lift the door off the bottom hinge pin. Hold the door securely as you lift it to prevent any accidents. Place the door in a safe spot.

Note: If your fridge has a water/ice dispenser, you will need to remove the kick plate and the bottom hinge, using a screwdriver to remove the screws. Disconnect the waterline and the water tube.

To replace the refrigerator door

Step 1:

Position the replacement door in front of the refrigerator, ensuring it is facing the correct direction. Align the bottom hinge pin with the hinge opening on the refrigerator.

Step 2:

Once the door is aligned, insert the hinge screws and tighten them securely using a screwdriver. Ensure the door is firmly attached to the refrigerator and there is no wobbling.

Step 3:

With the door securely attached, reconnect the wiring by aligning the connectors and pushing them together until they click into place. Double-check to ensure all connections are secure.

Step 4:

Slide the hinge cover back into place over the hinge and press down until it snaps into position.

Step 5:

Plug the refrigerator back in and test the door to ensure it opens and closes smoothly without any issues. Make any necessary adjustments to the alignment if needed.

How to adjust refrigerator doors
