LG CordZero vacuum cleaner filter guide
LG CordZero vacuum cleaners typically come equipped with multiple filters for effective filtration.
Pre filters
LG CordZero pre-filter (green washable) captures larger particles of dust, debris, hair and other dirt before they reach the main filter. This filter is typically located at the front of the vacuum cleaner.
Exhaust filters
Exhaust filters capture fine particles and allergens that are released back into the air during the vacuuming process. These filters help to improve indoor air quality by trapping dust, pollen, pet dander that might otherwise be recirculated into the room.
The specific colour of the exhaust filter for your LG CordZero vacuum cleaner typically corresponds to the model or series of your vacuum cleaner.

Cyclonic metal filters
Cyclonic metal filters capture fine dust particles and maintain optimal airflow in LG CordZero vacuum cleaners. They are typically made of metal and are positioned within the vacuum cleaner’s cyclonic system.
The most common metal filters are the ADV75957703 and ADV75957709.
Filter maintenance
Regular filter maintenance will extend the life of your LG CordZero vacuum cleaner and ensure it performs at its best. Over time, dirt builds up on the filters inside your vacuum. The metal filter, pre-filter (green, washable) and fine dust filter in the handstick can all be removed and washed in water to clean dirt away.
Recommended filter cleaning guidelines
LG recommends cleaning pre-filters every 2-4 weeks depending on usage for best cleaning performance.
Clean the fine dust filter every 2-3 months under normal use.
The exhaust filter generally requires less frequent cleaning. Check the exhaust filter every 6 months and clean it if necessary.
Most models have a filter cleaning icon that lights up, indicating when the exhaust filter and pre-filter needs cleaning.
Cleaning your pre-filter green (washable) and exhaust filter
Remove pre-filter by turning the outer exhaust filter counter clockwise to remove it. Lift out the pre-filter by the handle.
Clean the motor using the brush attachment to clean off the motor inside the filter compartment. Use a brush only, do not use any water.
Clean the exhaust filter with a brush or running water. Allow the exhaust filter to completely dry by reinstalling the filter. We recommend waiting 24 hours.
Wash and dry filter by cleaning the pre-filter with a brush and running water.
Reassemble all filters once they are clean and dry. Start with the pre-filter first. Then align the exhaust filter with the hollow circle at the top and turn the filter clockwise until the solid white circles align.
Lastly empty and clean the dustbin and remove and give the cyclonic mesh filter a clean also.
Caution! Do not use your vacuum cleaner without the exhaust filter and pre-filter installed. Doing so could result in appliance damage.
Replacing your filters
Pre-filters and fine dust filters should be replaced every 6-12 months or sooner if they are damaged or excessively dirty. Your exhaust filter should be replaced approximately every 6-12 months under normal usage conditions.
How to install your replacement filters
Safety first! Ensure the vacuum cleaner is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
Locate the filter compartment on your LG CordZero. This is typically found either on the top or bottom of the vacuum cleaner, depending on the model.
Open the filter compartment by pressing the release button or sliding the cover, as indicated in the user manual. Take out the old filters carefully. For the pre-filter and fine dust filter, they might be located inside the dustbin or in separate compartments.
To install the new filters, first take the new filters out of their packaging.
For pre-filter and fine dust filter:
Ensure they are properly aligned with the filter slots. They usually have arrows or markings indicating the correct orientation.
Slide the filters into place, making sure they are securely seated. You should hear a click or feel them lock into position.
If replacing the exhaust filter:
The exhaust filter is usually located near the rear or side of the vacuum cleaner. First, remove the old exhaust filter and then insert the new one, following the directional arrows or markings for correct placement. Make sure the exhaust filter is securely in place.
Once all filters are installed, securely close the filter compartment cover.
Turn it on briefly to ensure everything is working correctly. Run the vacuum cleaner for a few seconds to check for proper suction and airflow.
Dispose of old filters:
Properly dispose of the old filters according to local regulations.
Some filters can be cleaned and reused, however others are disposable and can be replaced.

Read MoreA comprehensive guide to vacuum cleaner batteries
When it comes to maintaining the efficiency of your cordless vacuum cleaner, understanding the basics of how your rechargeable battery works is vital. In this comprehensive guide to vacuum cleaner batteries we will explore the types of batteries available, the average lifespan and helpful tips for extending their longevity.
Types of vacuum cleaner rechargeable batteries
Vacuum cleaner batteries are primarily Lithium-Ion (Li-ion). Older models might still use Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries.
Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) batteries
Lithium-Ion batteries are the newer technology and are fast becoming the industry standard.
Light weight, which makes for easier handling and manoeuvrability.
Have a longer lifespan with no memory effect that can reduce capacity.
Have faster charging times and more power-efficient.
NiMH Batteries and NiCd Batteries
NiMH and NiCd batteries are rechargeable batteries. These are an older technology and can be found in some older cordless vacuum models.
How long do cordless batteries last?
The battery life of a cordless vacuum cleaner can vary and depends on a few things, including the model, battery type and usage patterns.
Battery Type
Cordless vacuum cleaners often use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which offer superior performance and durability compared to other types. Additionally, they maintain a consistent power output throughout their use.
Run Time
The run time indicates how long a cordless vacuum can work on one charge. Basic models typically provide about 15-30 minutes, whereas more advanced ones can last up to 60 minutes or longer. However, using higher power settings or additional attachments may shorten the run time.
Battery Capacity
Battery capacity, measured in milliampere-hours (mAh) or watt-hours (Wh), shows how much charge a battery can hold. Models with higher-capacity or interchangeable batteries provide flexibility, allowing you to extend cleaning time by switching batteries.
Charging Time
The time required to fully charge the battery varies depending on the model and charger used. While some vacuums can be fully charged in just a few hours, others may take longer. It’s advisable to refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for specific charging times.
Cleaning Conditions
The battery life can change based on what you’re cleaning and the type of surface. If you’re vacuuming thick carpets or using more power, it uses up the battery faster. But if you’re cleaning on lower power or on hard floors, the battery lasts longer.
As cordless vacuum batteries age and undergo regular charging cycles, their life tends to decrease. Additionally, battery performance can vary among different vacuum models and brands.
How can you know when your cordless vacuum cleaner’s battery is fully charged?
There are several of ways to check if your vacuum cleaner battery is fully charged. First, follow the manufacturer’s instructions, which typically provide an estimate of the charging time required for your battery.
Most cordless vacuums feature a charging indicator which is typically a light or display, that changes colour, flashes, or turns off to indicate a full charge. Additionally, some vacuums will stop charging automatically once the battery is fully charged.
Maximising your battery’s lifespan
Maintenance and care of your battery will help to increase its lifespan and keep it performing at its best. Try these handy hints:
To prevent overcharging, unplug your vacuum when it’s fully charged. Lithium-Ion batteries prefer partial discharge cycles rather than constantly being fully discharged.
Store your vacuum in a cool, dry place. Extreme temperatures can affect battery performance.
Surprisingly, using your vacuum regularly can help maintain battery health so don’t let it sit unused for extended periods.
Before your battery is completely drained, recharge it.
How to replace a vacuum cleaner battery
To replace your vacuum cleaner battery, follow these steps. Refer to your vacuum’s user manual for model specific instructions:
Safety first! Switch off the vacuum and disconnect it from the charger.
Locate the battery compartment, often secured with screws or clips
Remove the old battery by following the manufacturer’s instructions
Replace the battery with a new one, ensuring it is securely connected and aligned.
Screw or clip the compartment back in place.
Can I leave my cordless vacuum cleaner on charge?
Leaving your cordless vacuum on charge occasionally is usually safe. However, continuous charging can affect the battery’s long-term health. While modern vacuums often include overcharging protection, it’s still advisable to unplug the vacuum once it’s fully charged to maximise battery lifespan.
Common issues with vacuum cleaner batteries
Sometimes, problems may occur that can impact your battery performance. These include:
Reduced runtime
Over time, battery capacity may decline, causing shorter runtime. Check for degradation and replace the battery if needed. Inspect filters and brush rolls for any debris as that can put an additional strain on the battery.
Failure to charge
Examine the charging cable, connectors, and battery compartment for damage. A defective battery may need replacement.
Overheating during charging
Poor ventilation, faulty charging components, or battery issues can lead to overheating. Consequently, it’s important to ensure proper ventilation during charging.
Quick discharge
Aging batteries or excessive usage can lead to quick discharge. Monitor battery health and avoid deep discharges.
Corrosion on battery terminals
Moisture or environmental conditions may cause corrosion. Clean terminals with a dry cloth or a small brush. Store the vacuum in a dry environment.
Wear and tear
As batteries age, wear and tear reduce efficiency. Regularly check battery performance and consider replacement if signs of deterioration appear.
How to properly dispose of and recycle vacuum cleaner batteries
When it’s time to retire your old vacuum cleaner battery, you can safely dispose and recycle it responsibly. Start by removing the battery from your vacuum cleaner and tape the terminals with clear sticky tape (this is a good safety measure as even dead batteries have some residual charge). Then, just take your batteries to a drop-off point.
Drop off points can include your local council and retailers eg Officeworks and Bunnings. Do research local regulations regarding battery disposal. Many areas have specific guidelines for recycling batteries.
Knowing how to care for your rechargeable battery is essential for keeping your cordless vacuum cleaner performing at its best. With some basic knowledge and the proper precautions, you can guarantee that your vacuum will effectively clean your space for many years.

Read MoreWhy is my vacuum cleaner losing suction?
Common causes and solutions for vacuum suction power loss
Your trusty vacuum cleaner has been your partner in crime when it comes to battling dust and keeping your living space pristine. However, there comes a time in every vacuum's life when it seems to lose its once mighty suction power. Before you start contemplating the purchase of a brand-new vacuum, let's explore the common reasons behind this power loss and discover some simple DIY solutions to breathe life back into your faithful cleaning companion.
Understanding vacuum cleaner suction loss
Vacuum cleaners work by creating a suction force that pulls in dirt and debris from various surfaces. If your vacuum is losing suction, it means that something is hindering this process. Let's delve into some common causes and practical solutions.
Clogged filters
When filters become clogged with dirt and debris, they restrict the airflow, leading to a decrease in suction power.
Locate the filter in your vacuum cleaner (refer to your user manual if needed) and inspect it for any visible debris. If it's washable, give it a thorough cleaning.
Start by cleaning the canister
Unplug your vacuum and take out the canister.
Wipe away dust and buildup with a soft cloth.
Rinse the canister in warm, soapy water, and let it air dry completely before putting it back.
Clean the filter
Locate the filter and remove it. Tap it against a hard surface to get rid of excess dust.
Save time by using a vacuum or air gun connected to a compressor for thorough dust removal.
Rinse the filter under cool tap water—no detergent needed.
Let the filter air dry for 24-48 hours or until completely dry.
Once the filter is entirely dry, put it back in the vacuum.
For non-washable filters, consider replacing them regularly to maintain optimal performance.
Full dustbin or bag
A common oversight is neglecting to empty the dustbin or replace the bag regularly. When the bin or bag is full, airflow is restricted, leading to decreased suction power.
Empty the dustbin or replace the bag before it reaches maximum capacity. Check for any debris lodged in the dustbin compartment and remove it.

Blocked hose or attachments
Your vacuum's hose and attachments are the pathways for dirt to reach the dustbin. If any part of this system is blocked, it can significantly reduce suction power.
Disconnect the hose and attachments, inspect them for blockages, and use a broom handle or a straightened coat hanger to gently dislodge any debris. Be sure to check the entry point into the dustbin as well.
Cracked hose
Inspect your vacuum hose for any cracks or damage. A hose with cracks or holes allows air to escape, diminishes pressure and hampers the smooth airflow required to pick up and contain dirt.
Replace any cracked or damaged hoses to get your vacuum working at its best again.
Dirty brush roll
The brush roll, located at the bottom of your vacuum, plays a crucial role in agitating and lifting dirt from carpets. Over time, it can get tangled with hair and debris, hampering its efficiency.
Turn off and unplug your vacuum. Flip it over to access the brush roll. Remove any hair or debris wrapped around it using scissors or a utility knife. Regularly cleaning the brush roll prevents future clogs and ensures effective cleaning.
Leaking seals or gaskets
Inspect the vacuum's seals (gaskets) for any signs of wear or damage. Leaks in these areas can compromise suction power.
Carefully examine the seals and gaskets, replacing any that show wear or damage. This ensures a tight seal and maintains optimal suction efficiency.
Damaged belts
The belts in your vacuum are responsible for turning the brush roll. If they are worn out or torn, the brush roll won't spin properly, leading to a loss of suction.
Turn off the vacuum and disconnect the power. Access the brush roll and inspect the condition of the belt. Replace any damaged or loose belts, following the manufacturer's guidelines.
Motor issues can affect vacuum suction loss
In some cases, the motor itself may be the source of suction loss. If the motor is malfunctioning or has burnt out, it will impact the vacuum's overall performance.
If you've ruled out all other causes and suspect a motor issue, it's advisable to seek help from a qualified technician.
Troubleshoot and revitalise your vacuum cleaner's performance with our easy tips. Regular maintenance and quick attention to these issues will not only ensure consistent suction power but also prolong the life of your vacuum cleaner.

What type of vacuum cleaners do Miele offer?
Miele offer an extensive range of vacuum cleaners including:
Cylinder vacuum cleaners – Classic shape, ideal for large areas
Bagless cylinder vacuum cleaners – All-rounder, quick and easy to empty
Cordless stick vacuum cleaners – Compact and ready to use in a flash
Robot vacuum cleaners – Designed for automatic cleaning performance
Most Miele vacuum cleaners such as the Classic C1, Compact C2, and Complete C3, as well as upright vacuums like the Jazz and the Blizzard also use dustbags. Some Miele vacuums, like the Dynamic U1, use a combination of a dustbag and a filter.
What type of bags should be used with a Miele vacuum cleaner?
We recommend genuine Miele dustbags for Miele vacuum cleaners, which provide optimal performance and help to maintain the warranty. Genuine Miele dustbags are specifically designed to be used with Miele vacuums. These a are made of high-quality materials that are effective at capturing and retaining dust, dirt and other particles.
Should you always use genuine Miele vacuum bags?
Miele bags:
Are made of high quality materials. As a result, they are more durable and they last longer than non-genuine, after market bags.
Work seamlessly with the machine's filtration system.
Keep your home healthier, thanks to bags that are designed to trap allergens and dust.
Hygienic, offering dust free replacement.
Is it ok to use non-genuine vacuum bags in your Miele vacuum cleaner?
It is possible to use aftermarket vacuum bags for Miele vacuums, but there are several factors to consider before doing so.
Non-genuine vacuum bags may not have the same level of filtration as genuine Miele bags, which could result in lower air quality and the release of trapped dust, dirt, and allergens back into your home.
They may not fit as well as genuine Miele bags. This can impact the performance and suction power of your vacuum cleaner and allow dust to be drawn into the motor.
Generic or non genuine bags may not be made from the same high-quality materials as genuine Miele bags, which can lead to premature tearing, splitting, or breakage.
Most importantly – non genuine bags may void the warranty on your Miele vacuum cleaner.
4 types of Miele dustbags
There are 4 types of bags available and they are easily distinguishable by their colour coded collars.
(1) GN Bags [Blue Collar] – Designed for Miele canister vacuums
(2) FJM Bags [Red Collar] – Designed for Miele canister vacuums
(3) U Bags [Green Collar] – Designed for Miele upright vacuums
(4) KK Bags [Yellow Collar] – Designed for Miele upright & stick vacuums
What is the difference between Miele GN and Miele FJM dustbags?
The most common vacuum bags are the GN & FJM bags. The main difference between the two is the size capacity of the bags. Each bag has its own colour coded collar, which helps to make it easy to select the right one. Lastly, GN and FJM bags have the same fitting so they will both work. The only difference will be how much dust, dirt and debris each bag can hold.
Generally, Miele canister vacuums use Miele GN dustbags. They feature a unique AirClean filter system which uses two layers of electrostatically charged filter media, This helps to capture and retain more than 99.9% of all dust particles. To note, the GN dustbags are bigger than FJM dustbags, so they may last longer before needing replacement. They are ideal for larger spaces and more frequent vacuuming needs.
Miele FJM dustbags feature an extra large, seven-layer filtration system that captures and retains over 99.95% of all dust particles.
Choosing the right dustbag for your vacuum cleaner
The Miele dustbag that you need is dependent on your model. Check out our guide below to find the right bag for your vacuum cleaner.
GN Bags
GN bags have a blue collar. These are designed to be used with Complete C2, Complete C3, Classic C1, S8, S5, S2.
FJM Bags
FJM bags have a red collar and are designed for Complete C1, Compact C1, Compact C2, S6, S4 .
Handy tip: Each box of Miele Dustbags includes 4 dustbags, 1 motor protection and 1 exhaust filter.
How often should you change your Miele vacuum bag?
This depends on several factors, including the frequency of use, the type of flooring you have, and the level of dirt and debris in your home.
As a general guideline, Miele recommends changing the dustbag every 3 months. Additionally, certain models have an indicator that shows when it's time to replace the full dustbag. If you use your vacuum cleaner frequently, it may be necessary to change the dustbag more often.
If anyone in your household has allergies, you may need to replace the dustbag more often. This will improve air quality and filtration.
How to replace your Miele vacuum bag
Changing your dustbag is easy and only takes a few minutes.
Step 1: To start, open the cover of your vacuum cleaner. Press the release button for the dust compartment lid.
Step 2: Remove the bag by gently pulling the grip collar. Discard the old bag.
Step 3: Get your new Miele vacuum dustbag and slide into the holder mount. Align the arrows and wait for a lick to indicate its firmly in place.
Step 4: Tuck the unfolded bag securely into the dust compartment. Close the lid of the dust compartment. It will click into position.
Don't forget your motor filters!
Your Miele dustbags come with motor filters, which should be changed every 4 vacuum bags.
These filters offer motor protection and maintain cleaning performance. To change the motor filter:
Step 1: Open the dust compartment lid and pull the dustbag out by the grip next to the self-closing flap on the collar.
Step 2: Unclip the filter frame and remove the old filter. Hold by the clean, unsoiled section to remove it.
Step 3: Replace with a new dust compartment filter and close the filter frame.
Step 4: Fit the new dustbag into the filter holder as far as it will go.
Step 5: Close the dust compartment lid securely, making sure it clicks into position.
https://youtu.be/ovK8nQRK1Ec
Handy tip: Miele dustbags are disposable. Dispose of full dustbags. Importantly, do not continue to use them once they are full as this may result in blocked pores. This in turn can reduce the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner.
The right time to change your exhaust filters
Miele vacuum cleaners include their own exhaust filters, equipped with a timestrip. This will provide you with a visual reminder when the filter requires changing, which is usually once per year.
Genuine original Miele exhaust filter – Your exhaust filter may include a filter replacement reminder. Once the filter is placed in the appliance and the arrow is subsequently pressed firmly, the reminder is activated. The filter must be replaced when it is completely red and saturated.
The HEPA AirClean filter- filters even fine dust and allergens - ideal for those with house dust allergies. The timestrip indicator will provide a clear visual notification of the need to replace the filter.
Active AirClean filters - helps reduce unpleasant odours - ideal for pet owners or households with smokers. Check the timestrip indicator to see if its time for a filter change.

Read MoreHow to clean your vacuum cleaner filter
It’s easy to forget that our household appliances need some care themselves. Simple maintenance and cleaning of our most used appliances, can greatly extend their lifespan. We constantly rely on our vacuum cleaner to clean everything from food crumbs and dust to pet hair and dirt. To ensure that our bagless vacuums are cleaning efficiently, the vacuum filter and canister needs to be cleaned regularly.
What you will need:
Microfibre cloth
Dishwashing liquid
Small brush
Safety first! Unplug your vacuum cleaner
Note: Check the manufacturer’s instructions to see if your vacuum filter is washable or needs to be replaced. You can find replacement vacuum filters here.
Step 1. Clean the canister
Unplug the vacuum cleaner and remove the canister. Wipe dust and build up with a soft microfibre cloth. Then, rinse in warm soapy water and leave to air dry completely before replacing it.
Step 2. Clean your vacuum cleaner filter
Locate the filter – this should be easy to access. Check your manufacturer’s instructions if you are unsure where it is located
Remove the vacuum cleaner filter and tap it against a hard surface to remove excess dust. It is a good idea to do this outdoors or over a bin! You can use a small, soft bristled brush to remove any excess dust
Save time with our handy tip! For excessive dust removal, use a vacuum or air gun connected to a compressor
Next give the vacuum filter a good rinse under running water. Do not use detergent – cool tap water will do the trick
Leave the filter to air dry for 24-48 hours (or until completely dry)
Lastly, once the filter is completely and thoroughly dry, place it back into the vacuum. Your vacuum cleaner is now ready for use
Do's and don'ts
Clean your canister and wash your filter regularly. We recommend a monthly clean
Replace your vacuum filter every 3-6 months (refer manufacturer’s recommendation for filter life span)
Use the right filter for your vacuum cleaner. Need help? The team at Statewide can help you find the right vacuum cleaner filter
Don't use a vacuum with a dirty canister/filter – dirty filters allow excess allergens back into the air
Avoid washing a single use filter
Don't wash your filter with detergent/soap as clean water will do the job
Don’t put your filter in a dryer. Allowing to air dry is best
Reattach the filter on the vacuum until it is completely dry
Changing your filter regularly should be part of your regular maintenance schedule. A clean filter ensures that your vacuum has powerful suction and performs at its peak.
